Perennial flowers can be a good idea to spruce up your flower garden without adding any extra work. You must know the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’, when it comes time to choose, and to plant them.
Here’s a few gardening tips to make the task of growing Perennial flowers easier.
1- An important step before planting perennials is to monitor your soil drainage. To study this, you will have to dig a small hole six to eight inches deep where you want to plant your perennial flowers, and insert water until it stays full. Wait a day, and then fill it with water again. All traces of water should vanish within 10 hours. If the hole isn’t completely dry and If the soil stays saturated for a long time, you will have to build a elevated bed for your perennial flowers.
2- Secondly, you need to decide wich type of perennial flowers to plant, how many, and when. This can be a hard task to achieve, but if you do this right, the results will create a different “blossoming” at any point of the year. Try to do some research on the different types of Perennial flowers that you want, and create a timeline of flowering. Also, if you select the right mixture of seeds, your yard will constantly change color.
3- Select a custom seed mixture from your local florist or garden shop that will suit the environment that you reside in. Also, it would be best to get blends that are best for your local climate to be certain that your perennial flowers are always living in your yard or garden. You should ask a store employee what their suggestion would be a good seed mixture. They should help you select what to grow, and put something together for you that will be a success for whatever flower arrangements you want to have.
4- Distribute the seeds in little individual clumps. Make sure to take note of your instruction section on the product. The reason why you should do this is , as it happens often, they will tend to expand their growth, and if there is a big amount of them growing too close together then they will end up doing nothing but choking all of them. Also, when deciding to plant seeds, deposit a little bit of very weak fertilizer. The results will start showing very soon and your Perennial flowers will prosper at their best.
5- Cover with Mulch. For best results, use some kind of mulch when you plant perennial flowers. For one, it will save you time in pulling weeds around your plants, and would require less watering sessions, as the mulch would be of a very good use, as far as keeping it moist. Bark or Pine Needles. They both work great. Look around on your property. You may find some, and save some money. As far as using fertilizer, you should use it sparingly once your plants start to come to life.
Perennial flowers are strong, and they come back yearly without having to repeat the planting process or do any extra work. During their off seasons, the flowers and stems die back, and you can hardly even tell that the plant is there (instead of just dying and staying there like hideous brown clumps in your backyard). When it’s time to return again, uniquely new flowers shoot up where the last ones were.
